Who has to register for VAT in Italy?
A VAT registration is required, when the annual turnover threshold for distance selling was reached. Before After July 2021 the country-specific VAT threshold was abolished and a new EU-wide threshold of 10.000 EU was introduced.
What information is required for a VAT registration in Italy?
For the registration the Tax authorities will require specific registration forms, which will be filled out and submitted along with the following documents:
- VAT certificate from your home country
- Business register extract confirming your companies validity
- Article of Association
How long does a VAT registration in Italy take?
The registration in average takes 2-3 weeks from the moment the documents were provided to the Tax authorities. If the authorities request additional documents, the processing can take longer.
How does an Italian VAT Identification number look like?
The VAT number in Italy is called “Il numero di registrazione IVA”, short “P. IVA”. After the classic country code “IT” it is followed by 11 digits.
